Calculators and charts are estimates
Our calculators, charts and guides are general information to help you plan a project. They are not engineering, architectural, legal or other professional advice, and they are not a substitute for the building code that applies where you live, the manufacturer’s instructions or the judgment of a qualified professional. Results depend on the numbers you enter and on simplifying assumptions that are explained on each page.
Building codes are adopted and amended locally. Before you build anything structural, electrical, plumbing, gas-related or safety-critical, check the requirements with your local building department and get a permit or a professional’s sign-off where one is required. Add a sensible allowance for waste when you buy materials.

No warranty
We work to keep the site accurate, but it is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness and fitness for a particular purpose. Information can become out of date when standards change.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Builderology is not liable for any loss, damage, injury or cost arising from your use of the site or from relying on anything it contains, including project, material or labour costs. Power tools and construction work are dangerous: follow the safety instructions for your tools and materials and wear appropriate protective equipment.
Mistakes and corrections
If you find a number that looks wrong, please email hello@builderology.com with the page address and the inputs you used. We review reports and correct pages where needed.
Copyright and use of content
The text, tables, tools, images and code on this site are owned by Builderology or used with permission, unless a page says otherwise. You may use the calculators and print pages for your own projects. You may quote short excerpts with a link back to the page. Please do not copy whole pages, tables or tools to another website, or republish them, without written permission. Data we have taken from public-domain sources such as U.S. government publications is credited on the page where it is used.
