Abril Fatface is a heavy display serif; a single Abril initial in a circle is the classic farmhouse-sign monogram, and the split monogram keeps plenty of weight in both halves. It cuts cleanly at 1.5 inches.
Serif capitals are the classic choice for two-letter monograms in a double circle, split monograms with a family name, and a single initial in a laurel wreath.
