A circle monogram takes three initials and stretches each one to fill its own slice of a circle, with the surname initial larger in the centre. It is the shape you see on beach towels, tumblers, tote bags and car decals, and it works because the letters become one solid disc that reads from a distance. Letter order. A circle monogram uses the traditional order: first-name initial on the left, surname initial in the middle, middle-name initial on the right. So Anna Claire Baker is A B C, not A C B. The tool does this for you when you type the initials in name order and leave the order set to “Traditional”; switch to “As typed” if you want them left to right exactly as entered, for example for a business name.
Fonts that suit a circle. Heavy sans-serif and slab fonts (Montserrat, Bebas Neue, Bungee) stretch cleanly and keep their strokes even, which is what a vinyl cutter wants. Serifs such as Playfair Display or Cinzel give a preppier look. Scripts are usually a poor fit for the stretched style because their thin strokes distort, so if you want a script inside a circle turn off “Stretch letters to fill” and the tool places the letters at their natural proportions inside a ring instead.
Sizing. For adhesive vinyl a circle monogram cuts cleanly at 2 inches and up; the thin gaps between letters are the first thing to fail, so keep it at 3 inches or more for glitter or holographic vinyl. On a 20 oz tumbler a 2.5 to 3 inch circle sits well on the front. For heat-transfer vinyl on a shirt use 3.5 to 4 inches on the left chest and 8 to 10 inches for a full front. For embroidery, a circle monogram is a fill-stitch design and looks best at 3 to 4 inches on a bath towel; below 1.5 inches the letter gaps close up with thread.

Frequently asked questions
What order do the letters go in a circle monogram?
First-name initial on the left, surname initial in the middle (larger), middle-name initial on the right. For a married couple use the wife’s first initial, the shared surname initial in the middle, and the husband’s first initial on the right.
Can I make a circle monogram with two letters or one?
Yes. Type one or two initials and the tool splits the circle into halves (two letters) or fills it with a single stretched letter. Four letters are split into four narrow segments.
Why do the letters look stretched?
That is the point of the style: each letter is scaled non-uniformly to fill its segment and then clipped to the circle so the three letters form one disc. Untick “Stretch letters to fill” to keep the letters at their normal proportions.
Will the SVG cut on a Cricut?
Yes. The file contains only closed paths (no text objects, no clipping masks), so Design Space imports it as a cut layer. The letters are one layer and the outer ring is a second layer, so you can weld or delete either.
What size should a circle monogram be on a tumbler?
About 2.5 to 3 inches wide on a 20 oz skinny tumbler, and 3 to 3.5 inches on a 30 oz. Measure the flat area first; a decal wider than the flat area will wrinkle on the taper.
